Missions

It is our desire and prayer that Bethel is a Great Commission church in our DNA – our thinking, our mindset, our actions, and obedience. The word “missions” comes from the root Latin verb – “missio” – meaning ‘to send’. Missions or global missions have been a strong value and commitment for Bethel since its foundation. Thirty percent of the church budget is committed towards missions plus additional giving is encouraged. We define “Global Missions” as the church’s obedience to the command of Christ, to declare God’s glory through the gospel, going out to ALL nations, and cultures including unreached people (usually out of our reach). We believe in the making of disciples, teaching them to know Christ, and obey Christ. We also believe that it is the mission of the church to obey the command of Christ in reaching our communities, neighbors, and our children (within our reach) with the gospel. We call this “Home Ministries/Missions”. The distinction is that one is within our reach and is birthed out of the outflow of Bethel’s interaction with our community, neighbors and friends, whereas global missions is the task of the missionaries we support in places we ourselves can’t reach. Consequently, we support a variety of evangelical mission organizations that are committed to accomplishing the global task of reaching the lost for Christ. We support workers committed to the great commission, both and primarily from Bethel (we call them our “Home Missionaries”), and those who are not directly from Bethel. It is our desire and specific prayer to continue to raise up people from our own congregation to be ‘sent out’. We have a “Missions Team/Committee” that advocates for our missionaries as well as encourages involvement through outreach trips within the United States but also around the world. We encourage anyone who is considering serving in this capacity to reach out to our pastors or the missions team.

Beauty Amidst the Ashes

The BATA is a local (across Iowa) ministry founded by one in our own, so let’s take a closer look because you might benefit from it: “Beauty Amidst The Ashes exists to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ by advocating and educating individuals and families about adoption. They share their stories to evangelize, encourage, and empower people. It is their desire to bring the hope of Christ into each life story and motivate people to engage in caring for children who need families. They have also pioneered a nation wide adoption conference celebrating adoption, educating individuals and families about adoption and motivating people to engage in caring for children who need families.
