Serve the local church

Here are some ways to serve; God might give you with other ideas.

“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Hebrews 6:10 NIV

  • Prayer

To join us in prayer (Prayer? What's that?), you can:

    1. Get on the "prayer chain" by talking to the secretary. When someone has a need, they call the church, and the request for prayer goes out by email to those who want to serve that way.

    2. Take one of the printed lists of needs of people in our church, as well as our missionaries (their letters to us), which are on the missions table in the back of the worship area, and pray at home.

    3. Men pray for the worship service before it begins in the library at 8:45 am.

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. Romans 8:26 NLT

  • Music

Do you have a musical gift to share? Do you sing or play an instrument? Musicians welcomed! Musicians might take a turn on the praise team,  provide music before and after service, play during the offering, or perform a special music selection (solo or with others). There's also various music events that pop up now and then, like quartets and choirs or the brass band.

He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord. Psalm 40:3 NLT

  • Nursery care

Jesus loves the little children, and so do we. If you like to rock little babies, read stories, or build towers to be knocked over, this could be for you.  We need help on Sundays, Wednesday nights, and during VBS, as well as other special occasions.  If this is one of your callings, contact our secretary.

Then he said to them, “Whoever welcomes this little child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For it is the one who is least among you all who is the greatest.”  Luke 9:48 NIV

  • teaching

Has God given you a desire to teach or lead a discussion? We need Sunday school teachers for all ages, youth group, 105 leaders, small group leaders (Sunday nights), and Bible study leaders (any time). Teaching commitments don't need to be for a long time, either. You can just substitute teach, team-teach, or even take a limited time.

Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us. Titus 2:7-8 ESV

  • Lawn Mowing & snow removal

Do you like being in the great outdoors enjoying the sunshine, the smell of freshly cut grass, or the pleasure of fresh-fallen snow? You can enjoy it through service if you help mow the lawn or shovel the sidewalks. Sign up for 2-week responsibility shifts.  You may or may not get called to action in winter. Only warm bodies are needed; the equipment is in the garage. The sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

    1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV

  • Handyman help

Do you like fixing things, improvement projects, and using your hands? You are needed! Periodically, the men do projects here at church or for someone who needs help in the community.

For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.

    1st Corinthians 3:9

  • Valet SErvice

Some people don't have the health to walk across a cold parking lot, especially an icy one, so we try and offer them valet, or car parking, service. Valet service is offered from 9-9:20 am and from 10-10:20 am in winter months. If you are over 25 years old perhaps you can serve in this way,

The greatest among you shall be your servant. Matthew 23:11

  • sound system

Most of the time running the sound system just involves adjusting sound levels for the different mics and turning them on/off  during the service (beginner skills), but there's a lot more to it when you start thinking about connecting the wires for different set-ups or finding the cause of a buzz. If this interests you, go on back to the sound booth and talk to Rick Johnson. He'll be glad to hear from you (even if you never get beyond beginner skills).

So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.

    Romans 10:17 NLT

  • computer

Somebody's got to hit the forward button for the next slide of words to a song, and here's where it happens. The computer person also records the service and make's sure that presentations work. We use Pro Presenter and Garage Band on a Mac. If this is your interest, go on back and talk to Mark Olsen.

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms. 1 Peter 4:10 NIV

  • church website

The website company for our church makes managing the website easy, and you don't even need to know a thing about websites to begin with. You just need to learn their tools to put pictures and words where you want them. If this interests you, email the person at the bottom of this page...the "Can this website be better?" person.

“Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24

  • Use your gift!

What gift have you been given? Talents and abilities come from God and are meant to be used. Talk to the leaders about using yours!

Each person is given something to do that shows who God is: Everyone gets in on it, everyone benefits. All kinds of things are handed out by the Spirit, and to all kinds of people! The variety is wonderful:
